We got over to the Caesar's sports book a little after 9 AM. We grabbed a nice spot with a table and three great chairs.
I cannot recommend the Caesar's sports book strongly enough, it is really laid out well, is huge and each table has a LCD TV built into it.
We got some bloody Mary's and I started going through the racing form for Belmont Park. I picked out an exacta bet and some horses for the early double. I didn't win the exacta, but one of my horses in the double came through for me. In the second, I picked another exacta combination (2 horses on top & 3 on the bottom) and put $5 to win on a horse. That's when the winning started! I hit both the early double & the second race exacta. The win bet paid $14.25, the double paid $55 and the exacta was good for another $18.
I tried another exacta combination in the third race. Same result as in the 2nd, the exacta came in for another $23. At this point, an Italian guy sitting next to us wanted in on my bets. He said he'd buy me a beer if I pick a winner.
I skipped the 4th race, which was a maiden turf sprint race. I picked out another exacta combination for the 5th and three of us each put in $20 to bet on it. It ended up being 4 $15 exacta bets. And the sucker came in! It paid $14.40 per $2 so we each had $36 coming back.
We decided to push our luck on the 6th race. This time I put together a full 3 horse exacta box and we again it ended up being $15 exacta bets. And we hit it again. Not only that, we had the triple as well, too bad we didn't bet it. The exacta paid $41.20 per $2, so we each got $103 back.
The Italian guy was done betting with us, he thought our luck had run out... But he was wrong! We hit a small exacta in the 7th race for another small profit.
I didn't cash again for the day, but I didn't bet much either so I ended up around $200. I had never hit 5 exactas in a row before. Yeah, some of them were really cheap, but winning is definitely better than losing. Cashing in 5 races in a row was a record, too.
The another bonus of betting at the sport book is free drinks. After paying for the first round, we got enough free drink coupons from the guys taking the bets to have three of us drink all day.
Oh yeah, there was a soccer game as well. The room was 2/3 Italian fans and 1/3 France fans. The place got real quiet after Zidane scored. Except for my friend who bet on him to get the first goal. Once Italy tied it back up, the place was raucous until the end.
The Italian fans I talked with were very happy they won, but a little disappointed that they didn't do it before the shootout.
The final good thing about the sportsbook is the frequent player card. On Monday afternoon I asked the sportsbook manager to rate my play to see how many comps I could get. There was a problem with my card and none of my bets from Sunday showed up. He asked me how much I had bet on Sunday, and before I could answer the guy I placed most of my bets with (and gave probably $20 in tips to) said I bet a few thousand on Sunday. The manager asked if that was right and i just nodded. The manager ended up giving me $31 in comps which I'll use when I go back in the fall.
