Thanks to a co-worker, I got to see "V for Vendetta" tonight at the Imax theater in Navy Pier.
It was a very good movie, Hugo Weaving did a great job as V and Natalie Portman was good as well. Stephen Rea was very good as the lead inspector & had the biggest role in the movie despite his lower billing. A cute touch was having John Hurt play the head bad guy since he played Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984. Stephen Fry was also very good in a smaller role.
The Wachowski brothers did a good job of creating a Orwellian future England, although it was somewhat over the top at times. The politics + religion = evil incarnate theme also got a bit old. There was probably the best plot twist (that I won't talk about) I've seen in a long time.
I say go see it, it was very well done. If you hear someone say this movie has anything to do with the present day, smack them because that's a bunch of crap. The movie was a cool bit of fiction, but nothing more. Seeing in on an Imax screen was pretty cool too.
Superman Trailer Review (kind of)
They showed the trailer for Superman before the movie, it looked like it could be pretty good as well. I was surprised at how many semi-religious themes there were in the trailer. The voice-over, I guess his father, talked about how he sent Superman to the Earth to save its people. Go watch the trailer and tell me I'm wrong.
watched V for Vendetta recently, loved it. eye-candy effects, amazing how much character they developed into a mask, then again, maybe he was more than a mask...
