One of the most annoying things about the Nav system is my car is Lexus's nanny function. This keeps me (or a passenger) from programming the system while the car is moving at more than 3 MPH. This is a "feature" of the navigation systems in all Lexus and Toyota models.
Today while I was searching the forums on ClubLexus.com I found a post with the solution for programming the Nav while the car is in motion:
Press the menu button.
Then press the "System Option" button on the screen.
Now press the upper left corner of the screen, then lower left, upper left, lower left and finally lower right.
Ta Da, you have now entered the service menu for the Nav system!
Press the "override" button until it turns green. It may take a few seconds on some models.
Finally press "Back" and you are done.
The only downside is you have to do this every time you start the car. Also, I suggest not messing with any of the other options in the service menu.
It worked like a charm in my 2001 LS430, and supposedly works in all Lexus models from 2001-2005.
On some cars the procedure may be a bit different. Here is one for the Prius.
Enjoy!
